Making his much-anticipated professional debut, David Price pitched five shutout innings and faced just two batters of the minimum to lead Class A Vero Beach to a 2-0 victory over Clearwater.
While Price begins his progression toward the Big Leagues, he's still very close with his former teammates. He watched Vandy's contest with LSU before his start and remains best friends with Pedro Alvarez, who he thinks the Rays should draft with the No. 1 overall pick. It is going to be so much fun for Vandy fans watching all these Corbin recruits play MLB.
realistically, could pedro or longoria make the switch to either first base or the outfield? wouldn't it be worth a try with that budding team and the new park coming in a couple years?
I think that either pedro or longoria could make the switch pretty easily, but I'm not sure the Rays will want to go in that direction.
If Tampa decides that Pedro is the best player on their board, then it makes sense to draft him. However, there are a number of other good skill position players in the draft, including two talented shortstops (which the Rays could use), which means that Pedro and Price unfortunately might not end up being teammates.
